NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — One 42-year-old New Haven business has been creating custom apparel for communities across the country.

Campus Customs was started back in 1975 by Barry Cobden.

Today, Joel and Jeremy Cobden, operate as president and vice president of the business their father began more than four decades ago.

“My father was a very good retail person and he always said if you continue to do the same thing every day you’re not going to do more business,” explained Jeremy. “You’ve got to think out of the box and I think my brother and I, that’s the one thing we’ve learned from him.”

These days, the company performs a whole variety of operations including printing, embroidery, and promotional products.

Despite having clients as far away as the west coast and in Europe, Campus Customs prides itself on being a family business.

“I think the biggest part is that we are a family business and we do employ over 65 people different times throughout the year and all of the diverse client base we serve,” stated Joel.

And with so many clients, the company is concerned with making sure each one loves their product.

“…A family business now is how can you expand to more families and still keep that customer service,” said Jeremy. “We have a bunch of different layers of family here, I just hate the thought of someone not being happy with the end result.”
