Latvia, Lithuania to cooperate in protection of local consumers, producers

Print versionIn order to promote the ability of local food producers to compete with foreign producers on equal terms, the Alliance of Latvian and Lithuanian consumers organization has been established that will represent long-term interests of consumers and business representatives of both countries, Alvita Armanaviciene, the president of the Lithuanian National Consumers Federation, told LETA.

The Latvian and Lithuanian NGOs on June 27 signed a memorandum, providing for exchange of information in the area of consumers rights protection and national business environment in order to strengthen mutual cooperation and protect long-term interests of the Lithuanian and Latvian residents.
Participants of the meeting discussed the situation in retail sector, support to local producers, dumping strategies, proposals for strengthening competitiveness of local producers. The participants also initiated proposals for the EU legislation and necessity to protect interests of local producers.
