Egypt Praises Morocco for Hosting Libya's 6+6 Joint Committee

Egypt hailed the efforts of the 6+6 joint committee formed by the Libyan House of Representatives and the High State Council to draft the electoral laws for the parliamentary and presidential elections in Libya, praising the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting the committee's work.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stressed that Cairo encourages the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State to continue to play the role assigned to them in accordance with their prerogatives in the Skhirat Agreement, in order to bring together all the necessary conditions for the holding of simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya as soon as possible, in order to realize the aspirations of the Libyan people.

Egypt called on all parties involved in the Libyan crisis to support these efforts, in accordance with the principle of Libyan ownership of the solution and in light of the fact that their mandate comes from the legitimate Libyan institutions, in order to achieve the desired goal of restoring stability to Libya and realizing the aspirations of its people.

The Joint Commission announced Tuesday night that its members had reached a compromise on the laws governing the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for the end of the year, after two weeks of meetings in Morocco.

The Bouznika meeting is a continuation of the series of meetings hosted by the Kingdom to bring together the various Libyan parties to deepen the dialogue on the ways and means of resolving the crisis in the country, following an approach that provides the right space for dialogue and constructive consultation.
