New York Jets makes surprise final Aaron Rodgers decision with ‘resolution expected’ over star quarterback

THE New York Jets reportedly informed Aaron Rodgers of their decision which has stunned the NFL world.
The 41-year-old New York Jets star quarterback's future has been under a microscope after a disappointing 2024 season from him and the franchise.
Live from New Orleans at Super Bowl 59, Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that the Jets told Rodgers they would be moving from him.
Rodgers learned the news after flying to New Jersey to meet with the team.
Glazer's colleague, NFL insider Jordan Schultz, also reported that the two parties will part ways and that "a resolution is expected sooner rather than later."
The Jets are expected to make the four-time NFL MVP a post-June 1 release.
As a result, there will be a $14 million cap charge in 2025 and another $35 million deferred to 2026.
And Rodgers will be a free agent next month and can choose his next team for the first time in his 20-year career.
The Jets have a new regime, with Darren Mougey as their new general manager and former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their next head coach.
It's a fresh start for the franchise who have seen two turbulent seasons from Rodgers.
The former Green Bay Packers star suffered a season-ending Achilles injury just four offensive snaps into the first season and an inconsistent season leading the charge in the second season, going 5-12 in 2024.
Rodgers played all 17 games this season and posted a 90.5 passer rating, his lowest in a season during which he played at least 15 games.
He also recorded 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Rodgers was asked about the Jets' future after the end of the season.
He shared that his future with the team would be decided by the team's new general manager and head coach.
"I think everybody understands that it’s gonna come down to a GM and a coach and myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards," Rodgers said in early January, per NY Times.

With Rodgers reportedly out, star wide receiver Davante Adams and Allen Lazard - both former Packers teammates - are likely headed out the door as well.
Adams has a huge $38.3 million cap number in 2025.
The Jets will have the No. 7 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
However, they will likely look for another quarterback in free agency.
Rodgers' future, meanwhile, continues to have an uncertain future.
In recent months, he's openly contemplated the numerous directions in which he could proceed, including even retirement.
