MP Seechewal leads Buddha Dariya clean-up after return from Philippines
Ludhiana: Back from a 10-day visit to the Philippines, Rajya Sabha MP and environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewalgot to work on the Buddha Dariya. He operated an excavator to remove silt from the drain and held a meeting with dairy operators to discuss issues related to removing cow dung from the water body.The meeting, held under the leadership of Seechewal, with additional commissioner, MC, Paramdeep Singh, focused on dairy owners from Tajpur and the upper part of the drain. Police officers from the region were also present at the meeting. It was reported that 50% of the cow dung is currently being removed from A Block, while only three lanes in C Block have had the dung removed. Animal urine continues to find its way into the Buddha Dariya in some form. There are 67 dairies in A block and 97 in C block. Dairy owners have requested installation of biogas plants to manage the waste.Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal said that they were making progress in their efforts to clean the Buddha Dariya and clean water now reaches Central Jail. The TDS (total dissolved solids) of the water at Sangat Ghat was recorded at 102. He assured that he would continue to work on resolving the issues faced by dairy owners.Additional commissioner Khaira assured that there would be no hindrance in the initiative under Balbir Singh Seechewal's leadership. The contractor responsible for removal of cow dung also assured that there would be no complaints regarding the removal in A and C blocks, and that the dung from B block would be cleared by next month.The meeting was attended by Lovely Singh, president, Tajpur Dairy Complex, and Kuldeep Singh Lahore, district president, Haibowal Dairy Complex.
