Oklahoma special elections fill Senate seat, narrow field in House vacancies

Oklahoma special elections fill Senate seat, narrow field in House vacancies

Voters filled a Senate seat and narrowed the field of candidates in two House vacancies in Tuesday’s . results are unofficial until they are certified by the Oklahoma State Election Board.

Republican of Paden was elected to the Senate District 8 seat, which represents Okmulgee, Okfuskee and McIntosh counties and portions of Creek and Muskogee counties. The seat has been vacant all session, following the resignation of former Sen. Roger Thompson, R-Okemah.

Logan, 41, won in a three-way race with 61.62% of the votes cast, defeating Democrat Nathan Brewer and independent Steve Sanford, both of Henryetta. He is self-employed and a pastor at Paden Holiness Church.

Republican voters selected candidates in two Tulsa-area House district races. The winners advance to the June 10 general election.

, 57, won in District 71 with 66.22% of the vote, besting Tania Garza. She will face Democratic nominee Amanda Clinton.

HD 71 was vacated by Rep. Amanda Swope, who resigned to serve in Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols’ administration.

In a tight race, , 58, won the Republican nomination for House District 74 with 757 votes (51.46%) to 714 votes for Sheila Vancuren.  He will face Democratic nominee Amy Hossain in the June 10 general election.

HD 74 was previously held by Rep. Mark Vancuren, who resigned to serve as Tulsa County Commissioner Lonnie Sims’ deputy commissioner.
