CEOs with Indiana connections rank high on Fortune’s Most Powerful Women list

Two CEOs responsible for leading massive companies with Indiana ties rank high on Fortune's annual Most Powerful Women list.

Gail Boudreaux, president and CEO of the Indianapolis-based Anthem, makes her return to the list at No. 5. Meanwhile, Duke Energy Chairman, President and CEO Lynn Good takes the No. 11 spot for the second consecutive year. 

According to Fortune, the 2018 ranking is comprised of seven newcomers, two returnees, including Boudreaux, and CEOs controlling just under $1 trillion in market cap. This year's most powerful woman was Lockheed Martin Chairman, President and CEO Marillyn Hewson.

According to the Fortune list, Boudreaux, 58, has been Anthem's leader for less than a year but has "already put the $90-billion-in-revenue insurer on the right trajectory, with the stock up 45 percent year over year."

With Boudreaux at the helm, Anthem completed acquisitions of America’s 1st Choice, HealthSun and Aspire Health, according to Fortune. Previously, Boudreaux was CEO of UnitedHealthcare, the largest division within UnitedHealth Group.

Good, 59, is credited for leading Duke Energy away from fossil fuels, according to Fortune. In the past year, the company has added more than 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy and announced that it will close seven coal plants over the next three decades.

According to Good's company profile, she served as Duke Energy's chief financial officer and earlier led the company's commercial energy businesses during its initial development of renewable energy projects. She became CEO in 2013.

Duke Energy provides energy to 7.6 million retail customers in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Florida and the Carolinas.
