KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Missouri Attorney General is set to defend three state senators in a defamation suit after they called an Olathe man an illegal immigrant in the aftermath of the mass shooting at Union Station.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced on Friday, May 3, that he will defend three Missouri Senators who have been named in the defamation lawsuit of an Olathe man. The trio accused Denton Loudermill of being an illegal immigrant and opening fire during a mass shooting in front of Union Station, neither of which is true.

AG Bailey said the senators, Rick Brattin (R-Harrisonville), Denny Hoskins (R-Warrensburg), and Nick Schroer (R-St. Charles) have legislative immunity and that he wants the case dropped.

All three senators have shared images of Loudermill in handcuffs after the shooting with captions that called him an “illegal immigrant” and claimed that he was one of the shooters.

Loudermill, however, sat down with KCTV5 about five days after the shooting in an attempt to set the record straight.

“Well, I’m an American citizen,” Loudermill told us. “I’m 48 years old, I’ve been here all my life, and I’m not an illegal immigrant. Whatever you call it. But, I was just at the Chiefs parade celebrating.”

Loudermill’s attorney has claimed that he was detained due to the fact that he had been drinking and was near the scene when the shooting happened. However, he is not and never has been a suspect in any crime.
